Ramblin' Jack Elliott the Jewish cowboy. As soon as he could get away from Brooklyn at the age of 15 he joined a rodeo, got cowboy duds and NEVER looked back. His folks wanted him to be a nice Jewish doctor. Inspiring!

he was an influence on dylan (as was woody guthrie) but definitely not the "influential force" behind guthrie. however, guthrie and jack elliott were friends and have a few recordings together that are available. i imagine they were friends who shared music because they recorded a few of the same tunes on their own. anyhow, they're all great. love these dudes and this video.
