Sounds about it.

I think they are using standard tuning for both rhythm and lead parts. They played the song in A so John was playing A, D, E.You can play the riff in standard tuning. It's not that hard and doesn't require a different tuning.

I have to say it sounds great in open G, although you're probably right: it wasn't played that way originally.

That sounds awesome, the high d is the flavor! Thanks for this. Could you look at "stuck inside a cloud" someday? Maybe the sweet slide solos? George was a master!

However The Beatles recorded this song, here is an insight......When it came time to record the video, they just grabbed their guitars for the camera and didn't care that the guitar was in open tuning or not. They had moved on past that song and didn't see a need to replicate open tuning for a lip-sync playback....

When they played it for the video they did it in standard tuning. John is playing open chords, George is playing barre chords.

Thanks for this. I don't care what tuning this song is in. I just like hearing the guitar out front. When I look for cover versions I usually go for the drumming.

Great clip. Great song. It can't be open G however- The Lads recorded this one faster and then slowed the tape down on playback.

Rumour has it that it was that the instrumental track was recorded at 160 bpm then slowed down to 80 bpm to get the droning that's unique to this brilliant song, other thing is that was a b side to paperback writer, a b side that's the beatles for you

If it was open G, it would not surprise me. Lennon and Mccartney were geniuses. Mccartney knew how to find a rhythm and Lennon combined that with a revolutionary message. Bands like ELO and Led Zeppelin took those concepts and added on to them. They changed music forever, and I think we will see a resurgence of awesome music again in the future.

Sounds great, it's highly probable that George with his love of slide played it this way.May be good with a slide?

I'm surprised you haven't acquired a Rickenbacker yet PT. I regret selling mine a while back.

PT. Did you convert your SG to a Peter Green type sound with the Neck Pickup reversed?

PT, i'm not completely sure what did you say at the very ending, but I'm that guy who said it was in Open G. This song is full of mysteries. First, it's definately Paul on bass, these fantastic bass lines could be only played by him. But many people says there is Paul on guitar too. So maybe George didnt played anything, just sang backing vocals, but played guitar on video clip ? I think it's in Open G, but only Paul's "lead" guitar. John's rhythm guitar is tuned down a whole steps and he plays A,D and E chords. That D note at thickest string is a good guess thats really Open G. If you want to know more about it search: "how to play rain beatles guitars lesson tutorial" there is a video, he calls himself a Beatles expert so...

Can you make a tut of "It's for you?" I think the Beatnix version is better.
