Whilst I'm in agreement with those saying Rae's gender isn't really relevant to the music, this is an extract from an article in Dazed and Confused Rae featured in that might be helpful in response to questions:To Spoon, a Canadian singer-songwriter who makes sweetly poignant music, “gender is more like a whole galaxy”. Spoon lived as a man for ten years before realising that the expectations that came with male identity were equally as restrictive. “Gender expectation comes out of sexism,” Spoon says. “Coming out using the ‘they’ pronoun is refusing to accept a role. Anyone can refuse it. I’m moving toward an openness. The gender binary fails everyone at some point and this is dumb. In my approach to life, I don’t ‘other’ myself, I see myself as part of something everyone is a part of.”

Funny, I just spent a week in Vienna, took a walk along the old Danube where this video was filmed and discovered Rae & Ivan's book "Gender failure" in a feminist / queer bookstore over there, now I found this video which binds it all together :-)Wonderful voice & great topic !

@britishtwiggy it has nothing to do with maturity. My answer comes from the standpoint of the simple fact that I don't feel someone's gender or identity is important in whether or not they can produce amazing, beautiful music. Why are YOU getting so bent out of shape over it? Why is it so vitally important to you? Why is it so hard to say 'they make amazing music, and I am content in that fact"?
