This should have been a Top 10 hit when it came out in 1979. She was only 16 when she recorded it I believe.

I saw Rachel Sweet open for Pat Benatar on her first tour at the Paramount NW Theater in Seattle for $2.00!Rachel blew me away with great vocals in several genera. RS's cover of Tammy Wynettes."D.I.V.O.R.C.E. blew the doors off the place!

Great singer with a distinctive twang, poise, and personality. That first album she did had some really good stuff on in too. She sort of bridged punk and pop but in a more interesting way than Nick Lowe. Love the nymphet cover (oops!)

@yt090584 No one knew what to do with her. She could sing pop, country, rock, blues, jazz ie just about everything but it is very hard to be all things to all people. Stiff handled New Wave and off-beat acts like Lena Lovich and Rachel could morph but didn't quite fit the mould. Brilliant performer. She's done alright. And I think kept her sanity (which is more than a lot of 70s-80s era performers can say)

What a totally stunning performance by someone so young. Think she was only about 14 or 15 when she released this ... though I stand to be corrected. Great song too. Wayne
