I actually think this is a better voice quality than Amy Grant...(this comes from singer too). It has a little more comptemporary delivery... More Kelly Clarkson mixed with Grant. The video is poor, but I wish there was studio recording of Rachel singing this... why is she a back up singer now? for whom?

better than Amy Grant, in my opinion.

@nnglfc13 Yeah she was. Not sure if she is now. I hope she isn't.

Thank God she doesn't attempt to sing it in the horribly irritating falsetto style which is so popular these days. She gets an extra star for this.

@Sevinfootongue Have you heard Kari Jobe's version?

@teeny0518 Don't know how it really went down in the studio but officially Grant is pegged as the co-author of the song.

This song will be excellent if it sung and a live dramatizing of the story is being done.. The effects is touching, really takes you back years ago.

@teeny0518 Breath of Heaven was actually written by Chris Eaton and Amy Grant. Chris wrote it in its entirety but it was not about Mary and not a Christmas song. You can hear his original version on his CD. Amy loved it but was recording a Christmas CD at the time, so, with Chris Eaton's permission and blessing, she rewrote versus and kept the chorus and arrangement.

@rebekkahadrielle didn't i already explain below on this subject? I was commenting on how everyone knocks amy's version. i not once said that Rachel was glorifying herself. Though some singers out there do (I wouldn't watch this if I didn't like it) I was explaining why Amy's version is soft and subtle.

Just because someone hits crazy notes and does vibrato doesn't mean they're trying to glorify themselves.

i agree with you. Being a singer myself, i am also VERY tired of this line of thinking. Sometimes some singers aren't made for certain songs, it's true, but there's nothing wrong with runs.

@zedlacredit Donna's is not a masterpiece. She misses the reverence of the song. She's superior vocalist, but not right for this song.

@teeny0518 Amy co-wrote it. More than likely the words.

Besides you tell by how she looks like she wants to cry that she is feeling the Holy Spirit.

I didn't say she was a bad singer and wasn't worshiping God. In fact if you read I compliment her ability. The comment wasn't about this singer but it would be naive to assume that every Christian singer is the business only for God's Glory. And in general I like most versions of this song because well...it's actually a Christmas song about Christ. I just got irriated looking for versions of this song and constant rips on Amy Grant...even in this video.

As a singer, I am heartily tired of this line of thinking. This girl is using the gift God gave her to minister. If her faith and the spirit moves her to decorate the melody, then praise God that she was given the talent to accomplish it. Nowhere in scripture does it say "Thou shalt not sing with vibrato, neither shall you ornament." I'm sorry you cant be more open to different ways of praising Him.
