Queenadreena rule an empire reaching from hard to fragile sound. The cosmos of the band is circumscribed in the rivalry between flimsy whispered breezes and noisy rock drone. ..And the pole of this cosmos is personified in the sheer dressed singer Katie Jane Garside, who is able to juggle her driven personal appearance and the straight played instruments of her band mate

There is something to be said for freeing a voice to let it go wherever it goes unconsciously -free from whatever parameters one might otherwise consciously impose on it -to just let the voice become a channel for that perfect sound. The words might be surreal but the song would be beautiful. You could say the same about visual art too - art that's channeled without deliberately drawing it rather willing the totality and minutiae to be embodied in the work... Such a visual art might indeed be akin to listening for the perfect note in mental noise. -There might be a mystery as to the origins of such an art -of form suggesting multilayered form upon form, moments within the time lapse of subconsciously liberated memory. Would such an art be willed, non willed or willed non willed? Would the artist willingly suspending ego still be ego?, non ego? or paradoxically ego-non-ego? self-non-self? It's all very interesting stuff to play with. neurology, sound, the sound of words and what they suggest, the surreality and paradox of form in the formless and vice versa. I think KJG is misunderstood by the sound bite culture and to an extent I can empathize with her need for reclusivity and the path she's taken to follow her own creative processes. Artists often get misunderstood. -Dali got called 'mad' -or people endlessly speculated about which drugs he'd done. Maybe that's why Dali said "I am drugs" and why KatieJane did "Pretty Like Drugs" with QA? Or maybe not. Who knows?

That's a pretty damning criticism. Throwing in the "child blood" bit was a little too far. Is she Jewish? Does that make any difference? I will say this - although I don't agree with the situation in Israel/Palestine, 400 years ago, the conquistadors crushed the civilisation of my ancestors but it's all good now, even though they all speak Spanish. Point is, things work out in the end. But this has got nothing to do with Katie/Queenadrena or their music. And neither does your comment.

Black Lipstick.

I've been a bit interested in her for the past couple of years: she just seems so fascinating. Thought that that I would watch an interview with her after all I read about her mannerisms. I haven't seen any autistic behavior with my own eyes (or drugged out people lol), so she just comes across as as extremely uncomfortable to me.

and i got more to say: on this stuff about the perfect note - she's like Neko Case, in that she unerringly seems to hit exactly the right note at exactly the right time with just the absolutely right expression. now, i know that she did it purposefully. she is truly one of the world's finest pop singers. what i can't understand is how we, in north america, missed queen adreena, completely ... somebody owes us an explanation ...

this is a truly amazing interview. i can see how some might think it is very nutty ... but ... after listening to daisy chainsaw, queen adreena and ruby throat, like an addict, for a couple of months, i can atest everything she says rings true and very honest. and i disagree with her because i -love- the formality of the butcher and the butterfly and far from being a 'clean up job' i think it is one of the greatest heavy rock albums outside of people like zepellin, jeff beck and hendrix.

I really dig her musical philosophy, finding a perfect note within white noise, not easy to achieve.

I think overall, the interpretation of knowledge determines the happiness of an intelligent person. Many intelligent people come to deep realizations very early in their lives and don't have the experience to understand why it's necessary that certain things in life happen, and become too disillusioned to explore further, cutting off their development. Whereas those who haven't come to those realizations leave their minds more open and malleable (perhaps the wisest thing to do).

@xXxRav3rRawrBabyxXx I think what Courtney said there is true only from a very one dimensional view of intelligence. It may be more accurate to state that only simple people are happy rather than dumb people. I find that many of the mindless, herd instinct types are very mentally competent in a practical, common sense way, but they just lack the desire to expand their minds. One type of intelligence is very efficient in producing things of technical merit, whereas the other is creatively rooted.
