People! Listen to the style of Queen's music in this particular album (Queen II). It has some Norwegian Black Metal feel to it even though Norwegian Black Metal (or any type of black metal actually) came way after this. Pay attention to songs like 'Ogre Battle' or 'See What A Fool I've Been', Freddie Mercury even uses some guttural screams there which makes the songs somewhat dark. I am a fan of Black Metal (Venom, Mayhem, early Behemoth, etc.) and I think 'Queen II' took an important role to bring those types of bands to life. I think Queen pioneered the genre with this album.Actually, listen to Hortus Animae's cover of 'The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke/Nevermore'. You can find the cover of the songs here on youtube. Just search 'Hortus Animae- The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke/Nevermore' and you'll see what I mean. Queen pioneered the Black Metal genre.

In hindsight I believe Queen II was Queen's best album --- Sure A Night at the Opera was grandiose and A Day art the Races --- News of the World --- but Queen II was pure Queen before they were rich and they were very hungry --- Listen from Procession to Seven Seas and you'll get the picture --- A Band of High IQ's with High IQ fans (in most cases) --- Fairy Fellers, Ogre Battle, White Queen Black Queen, dannnng ---

I remember listening to this in 1975 and remembering how friggin' fast I thought it was --- how influential this sound was to later Speed Metal bands like Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, etc., Love it ---

I think it's apparent, that Queen ignited power metal before Rainbow. This whole record is super heavy, but this one... damn.

This is their best album. People who associate them with what they did on News of the World and "Jazz" tend to be surprised when they hear this record.

Queen - "Ogre Battle" from Queen IIThere are (few) people thinking that Queen II was the best album of the band. Surely it was hard rock, conceptual and progressive.
