BBC Maida Vale Studio version of Flick Of The Wrist recorded on October 16th 1974 and broadcast on Radio 1 on November 4th 1974.

Lyrics:

Dislocate your spine if you don't sign he says

I'll have you seeing double

Mesmerise you when he's tongue tied

Simply with those eyes (oooh, ooh, oooh)

Synchronise your minds and see

The beast within him rise

Don't look back

Don't look back

It's a rip off

Flick of the wrist and you're dead baby

Blow him a kiss and you're mad (oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh)

Flick of the wrist - he'll eat your heart out

A dig in the ribs and then a kick in the head

He's taken an arm and taken a leg

All this time honey

Baby you've been had

Intoxicate your brain with what I'm saying

If not you'll lie in knee deep trouble

Prostitute yourself he says

Castrate your human pride (oooh, ooh, oooh)

Sacrifice your leisure days

Let me squeeze you till you've dried

Don't look back

Don't look back

Ooh, it's a rip off

Aahhh

Aahhh

Aahhh

Work my fingers to my bones

I scream with pain

I still make no impression

Seduce you with his money make machine

Cross collateralise (big time money, money)

Reduce you to a muzak fake machine

Then the last goodbye (aah-ahh, aah-ahh, aah-ahh, aah-ahh)

It's a rip off

Flick of the wrist and you're dead baby

Blow him a kiss and you're mad (oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh)

Flick of the wrist - he'll eat your heart out

A dig in the ribs and then a kick in the head

He's taken an arm and taken a leg

All this time honey

Baby you've been had

This sounds like the album backing track with a couple of slightly different tracks - different lead vocal for sure. And very different lead guitar, which is horrible. Sounds like the next door neighbour borrowed the guitar for the solo ... then added random echo to try to make it sound different to the record.

A live album featuring BBC sessions from 1973 was released in 1989. However, it included the recordings at Langham rather than these ones from Maida Vale. If you want, you can look up "At The Beeb" on Wikipedia to have a look and see if you'd be interested in getting it. Enjoy. :)

These BBC sessions need to be compiled together and released as a box set.

so, is Brian responsible for the overdubbed guitar solo. It sounds strangely out of key and doesn't quite suit the song as well as it might. I can see why it didn't make the album cut. However, it is fascinating, and thanks for posting it! Queen will always be my fave.

@AxlMidas oh, zeppelin has nothing on queen. they were great, don't get me wrong, but they were nowhere near as good as queen.

@inoculate09 That's incorrect. Freddie wrote this. The song on Sheer Heart Attack that was written by John was Misfire.

Classic Rock from the Masters!! Love the sound of Brian May's guitar slithering around in the background like some acid tripping snake-charmer!! I've always preferred Queen to Led Zeppelin (which gets me into quite a few arguments, but I don't care)! Queen were in a league of their own.

you're all praising Freddie, but did you realise this was actually written by John Deacon?

IMHO this is the best Queen song. Brian's guitar work is brilliant....

Just discovered this song today, and already one of my favourite songs of Queen. Very, very good song.
