It was tough for ANY band in the 80s to maintain anything, given the fickleness of that sad decade. Quarterflash are very talented musicians, and that first album was a masterpiece. But they were a victim of their decade, and it was bound to end badly. I can't think of any band in the 80s that were consistently popular, as the decade just kept changing trying to find itself...

If anyone's wondering why Quarterflash weren't bigger, it's probably because Harden My Heart was such a big hit. I've observed over the years that any band that has a big hit off like their first single or their first album, that's pretty much where it ends, in terms of being popular. The one exception being The Beatles, and I guess Van Halen were pretty big almost immediately (though I'm not sure they had any actual "hit singles" until a couple albums in). BUt almost anyone else who can name were big immediately, it ended up being a short ride "at the top". There's a reason why the Best New Artist Grammy is facetiously nicknamed the "Kiss Of Death" award.

How ironic.....bands struggle to be heard and become popular. Once they become popular......their fans who bemoaned that they have not been popular turn their back or complain that that their music is too commercial. Can't have it both ways.
