Most performances on bandstand were lip synched, listen to the album version of this, and then find a live version in concert...you can tell, again, it is what it is, and it's a great song...they do it good in concert...but you can tell..

So who cares if its lip synched (and I think it is, its studio quality not their live performances) in 1982 I thought she was the hottest women alive. :)

American Bandstand was live music.

It's not lip sync'd. It's a delay in Youtube.

Well, if you're going to bring SNL into, shows like Ed Sullivan and The Tonight Show had live performances way before SNL. But there was still a lot of lip synching going on on TV right up until the Milli Vanilli debacle. It was almost like suddenly everyone wanted to or had to prove they were the actual performers on the record.

also, Saturday Night Live made live performances standard.

Oh, and this clip is definitely lip synched. If you check out some of the other clips of this song online, you'll notice the back up vocals don't quite sound like they do on the record, whereas this one does (because it IS the record).

It may have been Dick Clark who insisted on it early on in the show's history (that way if a solo artist appeared on the show, Dick would only have to pay for the singer, not the full backing band), but by the early 80's, lip synching on TV was standard operating procedure. It really wasn't until after the Milli Vanilli debacle that you started seeing people play live on TV regularly again, because everyone had to "prove" that it was really them on the record.

It's Lip Synched.. Altho a few artist did not lip synch on AB, Most group/artist's Lip synched on the American Bandstand.. I believe it was Dick Clark who insisted on this.

I saw Quarterflash in my high school concert auditorium in Fairbanks Alaska in 1981. The lead singer actually played the electric fiddle then. I was front row and after the concert I remember my ears were ringing for a couple of days. Great concert though!
