I love it! The harmonies almost made me think of the Beach Boys. Musically they're so talented.

Guys, this is one of the most brilliant songs I've ever heard compositionally. I've never heard musical passages that seem to work with the lyrics so perfectly before. The lyrical tension between real life quietly beckoning and the noise and commotion of modern distractions is exemplified in the instrumental passages amazingly. This is so impressive.

I know that this song is poppy and the chord progression isn't incredibly diverse, but damn Noam plays that banjo line like god put him on earth just to play it.... Incredible.

Where did you hear Familiarity? Live? Is it from the new album? I was supposed to go to ROMP this year, but have to miss it. I've only ever seen Thile live as a solo act and once with Nickel Creek. Not that I'm complaining - fantastic shows, both of them. People are suggesting that they won't be able to play Blew It Off live without drums, but Nickel Creek pulled off Hayloft live, just the three of them and their bass play, no problem. Awe-inspiring musicianship, all of them.

If you've ever actually listened to punch brothers, this isn't a pop effort. They write brilliant music. Music that makes you pay attention. This is a purposeful pop song with specific lyrics.

unimaginative, pretentious pop effort

They're world-class lyricists too. "The sun hits the back of my neck through a crack in the window shade ..I blow it off...Cause I keep outside with the ears and eyes of friends I've never met."How about that for words about technology in our lives?

Thile has always been about mixing genres - it would be unlike him not to chase a more pop sound after doing jazz, classical, bluegrass... Music is music. Crash through the walls. And all good music is a joy. Miles Davis knew that too.

I respect them and know they are talented. I think they should explore and experiment and expand in whatever direction they'd like. That being said, I probably won't follow them down this path, personally. I've been with my fiance for over 8 years and our first date was at a concert where they were still called "How to Grow a Band". I've been a fan of Thile for over 14 years and this album reminds me of the step he took with Deceiver, which I didn't particularly like either.I'm glad he still has the Edgar/Daves side projects and the cover albums.Don't hate on people for not liking this new sound either- as long as they are are reasonable about it.

Catchy? Yes. Would I recommend that anyone listen to this as a representation of the talent and genius embodied in this band? Absolutely not. Still excited to hear the rest of the album as I'm sure this must be a song aimed at those interested in a single rather than a collective work.

On first listen,a let down --- 2nd and third time around, this is a great track. I'm all about evolution and not becoming stagnant. Keep it up Punch Brothers. I'd also like to thank Elton John for shouting out the boys in Rolling Stone, twice. It's how I learned of the greatness.

Nothing that Chris Thile does is less than pure beauty. Love it.
