Sorry bro but even if you use something the same as an other band without knowing it your 99.8 percent likely to have picked it up subconsciously from that very band or the band they picked it up from. in other words everything came from something. very few sounds are innovative. However when they are innovative every smart human being will be aware of it. like pink Floyd were. Like the Beatles were. Like king fucking crimson was. Not all these thieving new bands.

Offcourse he is his hero. First Gary numen album was what Trent reznor idolized as a kid and you can see it jizzed all over every decent album of his.

Thousands of bands owe their collective existence to numan. Millions owe it to the Beatles . And billions owe it to god, for being so fucking stupid that they try beat the pulse of music into there own brains. If you don't understand it then don't try to. limit yourself to the radio like everyone who ignored gary numen did! Mans, got to know his limitations.

funny you say that as Numan reference Songs Of Faith as an influence to him.

Depeche Mode don't owe anything to Gary Numan, they are both fantastic musicians in leagues of their own.... If Gary Numan and Depeche Mode got together to write music, the earth would probably stop spinning and cave in on itself ;)

@The1930sRust I love Gary, but this is completely untrue and a bit ridiculous.....if you don't know depeche mode, please don't talk about their music.

while I like both Numan and Depeche, and I think they honestly, in turn, influenced each other... it's hard not to notice that the drums are the same ones from Get Right With Me.

In a VH1 clip around the time of Exile Gary Numan says that he likes Walking in my shoes by Depeche Mode and that the sound has influenced him quite a lot on both of the albums (I reckon Sacrifice and Exile). My impression is that Gary's been very open about being influenced by other artists e.g. David Bowie, Kraftwerk, John Foxx/Ultravox etc. (and of course NIN and the like these days). Has he ever claimed to be ground-breaking and original? (Song-writing wise at least not...)
