I loved this symphony so much as a kid. Every singe part of it. It was aired once a year on a local channel like Sound Of Music was. It taught me how musical instrumentation is used to convey a feeling, a word picture. I named my second son Peter because of this piece (no joke).

Near the end is the melodious plaintive voice of the duck, who is alive in the wolf's stomach, as he wolfed her downher whole, sort of like Little Red Riding Hood and her grandma. I wonder if the work's characters symbolize elements of society. Maybe the "duck" = the class of prosperous farmers "swallowed" by the Soviet "wolf", oppressed but still very much alive ?
