Procol Harum - WeisselklenzenachtProcol Harum – brytyjska grupa rockowa grająca progresywny rock.Została założona we wczesnych latach sześćdziesiątych przez Gary'ego Brookera i Keitha Reida jako zespół grający rhythm and blues, pozostając pod wyraźnym wpływem amerykańskiego zespołu The Band. Początkowo grali w lokalnych klubach repertuar taneczny. Przełomem było wydanie w 1967 pierwszego singla, który zawierał utwór A Whiter Shade of Pale (co na polski przetłumaczono nieściśle jako "Bielszy odcień bieli"), zainspirowany muzycznie "Arią na strunę G" Jana Sebastiana Bacha. Ten i dalsze utwory były dziełem pary autorskiej spółki Brooker – Reid. Do najbardziej znanych należą: "Conquistador", "Shine on Brightly", "A Salty Dog", "Whisky Train", "Whaling Stories", "Simple Sister", "Grand Hotel", "Pandora's Box".Bogate brzmienie grupy oparte było na rozbudowanej sekcji instrumentów klawiszowych (Brooker, Fisher), melodyjnej gitarze, łagodniej grającej sekcji rytmicznej, śpiewie Brookera oraz symfonicznych aranżacjach. Zespół rozwinąwszy swe progresywne, a zarazem lekkie brzmienie, zajął miejsce pomiędzy awangardą progresywnego rocka (Yes, King Crimson, ELP) a muzyką środka.W 1977 Gary Brooker postanowił opuścić grupę, by poświęcić się solowej karierze. M.in. jako solista dał koncert na festiwalu piosenki w Sopocie w roku 1978. Odejście Brookera zawiesiło na kilkanaście lat działalność Procol Harum. W 1991 Brooker reaktywował zespół, który nagrywał nowy album i odbył trasę koncertową. W 2002 grupa powróciła do studia nagrywając album The Well's on Fire.Zespół występował kilkakrotnie w Polsce.

AWESOME, THERE IS ONLY MATTHEW THAT CAN PLAY ANY PROCOL THIS WAY, AND IT IS THE ONLY WAY. AS MUCH AS I LOVE THIS BAND, IT SADDENS ME THAT HE IS NOT WITH THEM ANYMORE. NO ONE CAN GET THE TONE, FEEL, AND TECHNIQUE, THAT MATTHEW CAN FOR THESE SONGS. IT IS A SHAME

I bought 'The Well's On Fire' as soon as it came out. Even if the rest of the album were rubbish (and, needless to say, it isn't) this one track alone more than justified the price of the album. The very first time I listened to it, I found it completely overwhelming : it made my hair stand on end. Sadly, hearing a piece for the first time is an unrepeatable experience - but I still love it!
