At least they're trying to be different. They could easily capitalize on their old successes and write music that sounds like it belongs in the 90's but I suppose the Foo Fighters and RHCPs already showed how stupid and useless and lucrative it is to do that.

I love EVERY record by Primus, EVERY, even the Brown album :D but this one... no, sorry. I believed I wouldn't ever write such a statement, I always said Primus can't do a bad record because Les is a total genius.But this time he's playing Pong using as rackets Zappa and the Residents, and the result is SO distant from both. I know he had to keep the original 1971 soundtrack well into the record structure, as a precise aim. Indeed he was successful in that, but to me Primus are what blown my mind when I bought Frizzle Fry in 1990. This may be a good DOCUMENT, a job like John Zorn's Filmwork series, but at least TO ME - and I obviously may be the only idiot having this impression - this record is embarassingly boring.

I think les is so smart he only used the shell of the wonks movie, I noticed through more listens that the lyrics are slightly autobiographical think about it les is Charlie or Charlie is less...that's my take on it, anybody agree with that?

My guess is that anyone who deems this as "shit" is no older than 13 - 15. Which makes them angry kids on the internet. Why? Because you obviously don't sense the amazing parallels to the chocolate factory as a whole. It's creepy, it's trippy, it's somewhat cheerful.. it's all there perfectly punctuated.That being said, it's definitely not primus' best. Or Claypool for that matter.

Next week Primus's re-imagination of the Willy Wonka soundtrack comes out. I've been listening to an advanced copy and even though I don't consider myself a Primus fan, I think I dig it. They put their own spin on the songs, and it includes every song, even the mother's song (my most disliked song in the movie) and the Oompa Loompa songs. It's slightly morbid, twisted, sarcastic, and what you'd expect from a re-imagination of Willy Wonka.PS: That movie remake from a few years ago never happened.. I SAID IT NEVER HAPPENED!
