r.i.p. James Honeyman-Scott, the best and the original pretenders guitarist, 4 November 1956 – 16 June 1982. only the good die young is very apt for Scott. He is not playing in this video of course and neither is there a hint of his spirit in this performance of a song that he recorded and played live with the original pretenders between 1979 and 1982.

Saw Chrissie do this a couple of weeks back in London, highlight of the show and still in her prime. Special, so special. Probably my favourite female songwriter and performer of all time.

ONE OF THE GREATEST FEMALE ROCKERS EVER! Hugely influential in my own development musically, esp. as a role model for women in music! #chrissiehynde #Pretenders

This is my top "Pretenders" song, followed closely by "My City Was Gone" (Ohio) where Chrissie was born and grew up. I remember when Chrissie married Nick Lowe ("Cruel To Be Kind" a real favorite of mine.) When I heard that, I thought of this song, and the line, "We're gonna do it, do it, do it, do it, do it on the pavement....maybe, I wanna have a baby" and pretty soon after they got married, she did!

Still holds up after all these years. Still kicking a$$ after 35+ years. Make that money, Chrissie, cuz you're so Precious.
