Here's an analysisWhat people pick up on instantly given the context and circumstances, is that this song is supposed to be a comment on the way modern Electronic music sounds too aggressive. But there's a few things I want to point out.•The sounds are incredibly harsh, but despite that, there's quite a range of them played•The melody might be beautiful, but it plays so many times before the first drop and throughout the song that it's kind of boring. Another thing I want to point out is that after the harsh noises, the rest of the song is roughly a half and half mix of the relaxing instrumental parts and the chopped up noisy parts, alternating between the two. But when the final drop hits, it's both. We hear the melody again, but with a heavy drum beat and the occasional harsh noise cutting in.And that's exactly why it's such a great drop. This song isn't just a meta-comment on Electronic music's direction, it shows how both extremes used within the genre can be overused and abused, and that the best music is a combination of both. In the song's later half, the two extremes slowly get closer and closer together until they collide into one danceable but emotional piece of music. Keep in mind that, although Porter's music shifted with this album, he still uses a bit of common electronic music techniques like the aggressive ones in this song (Live version of Fresh Static Snow, for god sake!).Fellow Feeling isn't just about Porter's view on music. It's about meeting someone who shares those views, and fully understanding each other, as the monologue suggests. It is called "Fellow Feeling" after all. What do either of those words have to do with the state of Electronic music?This is why Fellow Feeling is my favourite Porter Robinson song.
