Nothing better than when these two were together.

Country and blues are the same and this proves it.

@ronaldt491 Actually this is a Dann Penn song, originally performed by James Carr - which is also on Youtube.

Remake of an old Percy Sledge single. It's on YT if anyone wants to check it out.

@Kilu71: Not only Dolly's voice makes her so damned unique, I'm sure she can sing like hell because that unique voice of hers and the emotionality she puts in it. I'm a huge fan of Dolly's. But also her compositions are of an unparallelled beauty and rise extremely high above the mediocrity of amost every other C & W song. And that, said by an alltime bluesfan, in general I've nothig with C & W, but Dolly & Patsy Cline are for me the excemptions.

I don't know that original song but I do know Kitty's follow-up. All this was way before my time (unfortunately, since country in my time is rather horrific)so this is not the first time I've been able to say "Oh... The Kitty Wells songs is actually a follow-up to some guy's song!" LOL-I'm sure you know the one I mean. I was very lucky--and surprised--to be able to meet her at an Eastern Ontario fair show about ten years ago.

Yes, it definitely makes a great country song. Thematically it reminds me of the Webb Pierce classic "Backstreet Affair" (and the Kitty Wells follow-up/response "Paying for that Backstreet Affair").

The guy is great, but I don't much care for Dolly Parton's voice. It's...unique, to put it kindly.

Greatest lovesong ever !! Wonderful rendition of Dolly & Porter. Learned to know this song via Eva Cassidy. Anybody with an answer to my question: when was this D&P-version recorded ?

So now I know there were as inspired selections in her early catalogue as there have been on her more recent albums. Islands in the stream of 9-to-5 commercial country, that is what they are.

I've listened to a few versions of this song, most obsessively Diamanda Galas', and never understood why nobody (as far as I'd heard) had sung it as a duet. It always sounded almost like a demo you're supposed to listen to as if it were. Would have been a good choice for Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Julet if he'd done it Moulin Rouge-style. So I finally decided to look it up and just before I found this I was thinking it would probably also work as a country song.

These too together were just the best duets ever! I do so wish that RCA would release this album on CD. Thanks for posting.

This was a Top 10 local hit in Louisville, Kentucky by Gary Edwards & The Embers. A good song and nice to hear Porter & Dolly's version. I think "Just The Two of Us" would probably be my favorite album by the duo. Thanks for posting.
