Shallow, from the album Deadwing (2005)

Here the lyrics:

I don't remember

Did something in my past create a hole?

Don't use your gender

To drive a stake right through my soul

I live to function

On my own is all I know

No friends to mention

No distraction, nowhere to go

Shallow, shallow

Give it to me, give it to me

Scissors cutting out your anger

Shallow, shallow

No good to me, not if you bleed

Bite your tongue, ignore the splinter

This city drains me

Well maybe it's the smell of gasoline

The millions pain me

It's easier to talk to my PC

I live to function

On my own is all I know

No friends to mention

No distraction, nowhere to go

Shallow, shallow

Give it to me, give it to me

Scissors cutting out your anger

Shallow, shallow

No good to me, not if you bleed

Bite your tongue, ignore the splinter

It kinda has an 'Israel's son' vibe (from silverchair)

This was the first metal song I ever listened to. It came with my launch 360. I've become such an avid metal and prog head now that I never realized that I must have replayed this song a bazillion times. Probably why it's my least favorite PT song. It's just crazy that I got into this because Microsoft put this song on my 360.Makes me wonder...how many metalheads would exist if metal was more exposed?

THIS SONG IS TOO DOPE. It's a damn shame Porcupine Tree is broken up. God willing they'll have atleast a few reunion tours.

"Steven Wilson himself described “Shallow” as “the closest Porcupine Tree has come to making a big dumb rock song"
