I like listening and listing the influences. They wont copy, but its fun to think of the precedence. It brings up good memories.

I like what Im hearing from Astra so far(The Black Chord). It has a cool rugged mud soaked fantasy vibe to it. But its pretty wanky.

I see PT as chic prog. Its thin. poised and elegant. Stripped of all excess fat. And I like Steven non virtuosic approach to lead guitar. Porcupine Tree actually made me pick up a guitar.

I agree entirely. I've been listening to Yes and King Crimson since time began. You won't get any more progressive than these two bands. I think I've already said this in another PT forum, but I was bombed out by the boys in short pants, who think PT is the best thing since sliced bread.

I agree with all you wrote. Been listening to Prog bands since early '70s. The difference in older bands and new bands is the later tend to be more narrow in scope, I think. Have you checked out an American band named 'Astra'? Think of mixing Crimson and Yes but leaving out any filler.

Both Tool and Porcupine Tree could make comparisons to King Crimson. Perhaps Tool alittle bit more. Especially heavy Crimson. Material from Red and Thrak for example. PT sounds like a heavier Pink floyd at times.

Le montage video est intéressant ; il cache l'indigence de cette architecture musicale. Mis à part "fear of a blank planet" et quelques autres du même acabit, je ne miserais pas sur PT dans le long terme :-(
