A man after my own heart! And not only the Beatles! The whole "British Invasion" was a musical mess!

My daughter needs a new phonograph.Let me make a correction. She needs a new mp3 player.I hate One Direction. She says they have a London beat. She says they used to play there.Five nice kids from offa the street. Why didn't they stay there? What is all the screaming about?Fainting and swooning.Sounds to me like their guitarsCould use a little tuning. The boys are from the British Empire. The British think they're keen.If that is what the British desire,God Save The Queen. No daughter of mine can push me around. In my home I'm the master. But when One Direction came into town,Gad, what a disaster.Little girls in sneakers and jeans.Destroyed the territory.'Twas like some of the gorier scenesFrom The West Side Story.Of course my daughter had to go there. The tickets are cheap, she hollers.I was able to pick up a pairFor fifteen-hundred dollars. When One Direction comes on stage,They scream and shriek and cheer them. Now I know why they're such a rage,It's impossible to hear them.Liam is the one with the voice,The others all sing with him.It shows you what a boy can becomeWithout a sense of rhythm. There's 1D books and T-shirts and rings,And one thing and another. To buy my daughter all of those things,I had to sell her brother.Back in 1776We fought the British then, folks.Parents of America,It's time to do it again, folks. When they come back, here's how we'll begin,We'll throw 'em in Boston harbor. But please, before we toss 'em all in,Let's take 'em to a barber.

Just take a listen to "Somewhere, Overweight People" to the tune of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, for another sample of Allan Sherman's humor.

Part of what made The Beatles great was the controversy they created: they looked different, sounded different, acted different from most other bands, certainly American bands. I grew up with my dad playing Allan Sherman's albums making fun of everything, including himself (for being fat, etc.). It's comedy, people. Let's remember that laughter is healthy and making fun doesn't equate to hating. Peace -- out.

its a comical song about the conflict between generational views. As such it is timeless and very funny. Alan Sherman's awful singing voice works perfectly with his comedy.

I wonder what Sherman thought of Led Zep?

This song isn't particularly a well written or good song but it does serve to remind us that there was a time when the Beetles were not universally loved and that there was a whole generation who didn't like there "long hair" and "noise music". If Allan Sherman disliked the Beetles or not I don't know but his audiences reaction shows that they agreed with the song.
