+Ragitsu I think he means less "pride" than "thanks". When you come up lucky in something in life and are appreciative of it. I feel similarly about being British, despite not being patriotic in the slightest.

i suck at indifference, and for all i love words, to me saying i am happy i was born here is the same as saying im proud to have been born here.we are clearly not going to agree. I propose we agree to disagree.I dont believe that I am wrong, but that doesnt have to mean that you are wrong either. theyre oppinions, nothing more

The alternatives include happiness or perhaps even indifference. Again, pride should be reserved for self-accomplishments or that which is taught to others, not something you had zero control in.

i am proud of the land mass i just happened to be born on- and lived on my entire life =)because the alternative is for me to be bothered by the landmass on which i was born. try not to let it bother you too much.im sorry but i dont quite follow whhat shellfish or pigs have to do with anything.

Many are also taught to be proud of the landmass they just so happened to be born on. The same goes for not eating pigs or shellfish due to mystical reasons relating to cleanliness. Myself, I prefer to think more logically.

im not sure its enough to just be indifferent to where you come from.anyways, I love my home country, and I am proud of it, and proud to be Canadian.I find it hard to do indifferent.I imagine many feel the same way. Its nothing against you, its just the way I am.

There is a difference in not being ashamed of your genetic roulette, and actively being *proud* of your genetic roulette.

at the risk of sounding way more worked up about this than i actually am, i just want to point out that many people wish they were born other than they are.they wish they were skinnier, that they had blue eyes instead of brown, or that they werent black or mexican or whatever. too many to say that ethnic pride isnt a good thing. its certainly better than hating/hiding/ being ashamed of this aspect you cannot control.yrp. it really looks like i care a lot more than i do.oh well. peace

Sure, I see your point. I see people for who they are, no matter the race and that's what everyone should do. We're cool, right? :)

There is no need to apologize. I am just bothered by ethnic pride of any kind, as it not something one can choose (in much the same way one can claim to be "proud" to have brown hair or great height).

You didn't really start analyzing my comment? Of course I'm proud of myself for who I am and some things I do but I'm also proud of some Finnish music. Please don't take it too personally, didn't mean to offend anyone :) And for the record, I'm very multicultural person, I have friends in many countries and at the moment I'm working with immigrants for example (just a note, no need to analyze). And I also teach acceptance. I have nothing against you or anyone else for that matter. Relax :)

You had no choice in your place of birth, or your parents, so why feel ethnic pride? Pride should arise from things you do, or things you teach: not happenstance.

Yeah, this comment is a year old, but fuck it: My theory is that Scandinavia is one of the last places on earth that still remembers that, oh yeah, rock is fucking awesome.
