This isn't bad, but U2 adds mystery, passion, and depth to there song. POD just yells, both good in there own right, but it all depends on what you want to here.

A year later, I disagree with your opinion. POD's cover is by far the best cover of this song and I would say it is even better than U2's studio recording of the song. I think your comments are absolutely right if we're talking about a live performance though. Bono has a lot more soul in his voice live than he ever did in a studio and I think their ~8 minute live version of the song is one of the best songs ever sung.
