Just because a certain type of music speaks to you in a deep way does not mean that it should automatically be recognized as some kind of 'superior' music. Conversely, just because a particular kind of music sounds like meaningless crap to you does not mean that it does not genuinely speak to other people in a deep way that makes them feel that it is 'superior' music. Taste really is completely and utterly subjective, whether it's some great symphony or a 'shitty' rap track about money & hos.

well, I'm personally apatheist which means I'm neither christian or atheist, and believe that no evidence can prove either side, and I can admit I've heard a few rap songs that I thought were pretty good. But tell me does lil' wayne stand up and praise god or straight out defy him?

If you were christian or something similar, I would say all music is made by God, and that not one type is worse than any other. But if not, then it's your oppinion, do with it what you will, and sorry for the meaningless comment.

you are very wrong. he made a number of piano rolls between April and June of 1916 - 2 of Maple Leaf Rag (the second shows considerable deterioration in his playing from his illness), Weeping Willow Rag, Something Doing, Magnetic Rag, Pleasant Moments and Ole Miss Rag by C.W Handy.

Thrawn6211- Truer words were never spoken. And what's more pitifully unfortunate is that the vast majority of "listeners" who throw their monies and minds to their talentless heroes will never even know of Joplin or the myriad of other superb musicians who truly know what music is.

Scott Joplin died in 1917. This music is supposedly from a recording of him playing piano that he made in 1917. I don't believe it. He never recorded himself playing. No one today knows what his playing sounds like. We can only go by the notations and music sheets he left behind. He preferred to play rags in a moderate, slower pace. After he died, most pianists played the rags very fast but it as never his intention.

this would have been great to listen to if ' You Tube' didn,t ruin it by breaking it up by making the screen go grey and that circle thing going around.

I believe this to be Joplin, as it has the slower, sadder nuances that so many others miss, even though they nail the notes. Or maybe I'm wrong, but either way great tune.

There was an advertisement before the video with some rapper saying "I left out the studio, and the next day I go to jail" Just goes to show what idiots people idolize today and call musicians, when there is great music that's lost popularity because people like musicians who are in jail more than they are in the studio.
