Pistol Annies - Houewife's Prayer

No copyright infringment intended.

LYRICS:

I've been thinking about setting my house on fire

Can't see a way out of the mess I'm in

And the bills keep gettin' higher

All I need is a match and a gallon of gas

God, I'm gettin' tired

I'm gonna set my house on fire

I've been thinking about going off the deep end

My man can't get no overtime and the baby ain't been sleeping

All I need is a washing machine, these ends of mine ain't meeting

I'm about to go off the deep end

Well, I've been thinking about all these pills I'm taking

I wash them down with an ice cold beer

And the love I ain't been making

I feel like I'm burning up with words I ain't been saying

And all these pills I'm taking

I've been thinking about setting my house on fire

Every housewife and mom knows what this song means.

Money gets tight, the house never stays clean, the baby is crying, the washing machine broke, and you just want to take a second and breathe. That's what they are talking about. Music is about writing a song that connects to your fans. They accomplished that. No take some Midol and get your panties out of a bunch

Ladies!!!! It is A SONG. Some women can identify with the emotional meaning of this song. There is no literal meaning or subliminal message saying " The Pistol Annie's say you should take pills and burn your house down". We could be talking about ibuprofen for a headache here. I love how everyone jumps to anti-depressants. Lets just keep letting men think we are all crazy! I can identify with what the emotional meaning of this song is. I think every American housewife has felt overwhelmed

@kaseytillery9 the pills could be referring to anti-depressants.

I agree with you 100%. Not all people are strong enough to deal things through straight-on. Others are too scared, others are not keen on depending on others while others just plan don't know what to do. Thumbs up to your post Kelsey.

By the way.. it is NOT Miranda Lambert singing, and she was not the one to write the song. It was the lead singer, Angaleena Presley. You really don't know where she has been or what she has been through.. so don't judge. If you don't like/agree with the song - dont listen to it.

Good point, Audrey. And I do know what the song lyrics - and you - are talking about. I've had depression and anxiety before, and the best thing I could do was something that required some kind of positive energy to pull me out of the pit. Prayers to God would bring someone or something into my life to save me Happened every time.

But sometimes it's actually an unbalance of chemicals in the brain. Some people need them but they don't always work as much as they need to. I think people who are depressed are already thinking of these things regardless. Sometimes hearing it in a song can reassure you that it's not just you thinking that.

Life. This is real life.

And what you said about dealing with "stress and anxiety by cleaning the house & exercise" REALLY is the answer. I wish more doctor's would advise that instead of writing scrips for addictive pills!

I think Miranda is really "cute" and a great singer/songwriter, and obviously this genre and "girl power" attitude has made her really popular, wealthy and famous. But let's see what happens to "Pistol Annie" when she has a baby or grows up, and somebody sets fire to a house because they "heard it in a song." Lambert of course isn't responsible for other people's actions, but it might just make her change her tune. Hope it doesn't come to that. Right now it's "cute & funny" but really it's not.

jarileigh, the thing that scares me the most is that I see our entire lifetime working for women & children to be safe in their own homes, and to be treated fairly and equally under the law being completely undermined, intentionally or not, by songs like this. Being "hell on heels" is something we pretended to be when we were 18 years old, not married or with children of our own. Until I read the comments, I thought people wouldn't take this song seriously but they ARE. That scares me the most!

And taking pills is not only the easy way out, it leads to neglect, abuse, & babies being born addicted to narcotics b/c the Mother ???? I don't know what a Mother is thinking that does that!

Thank you very much! You make a excellent point when you said "I wonder if Miranda Lambert realizes the effect she has on young women", I can't understand it, I loved being a Mom, keeping the house clean, even though my marriage was a mess, maybe it was because I was focused on my son & not "thinking about all these pills I'm taking" I dealt w/my stress & anxiety with exercise, not burning my house down. I am FAR from perfect, but there is no excuse for always taking the easy way out!

And sounds like it's time for AA or NA, instead of "setting the house on fire." Time to get clean!

The fact this song relates to so many people shows why America is in the state it is in, consuming 80% of the planet's oxycontin, it's disgusting, a bunch of selfish people who don't raise their kids right. BTW, if you weren't popping so many pills maybe the actual bills could get paid!
