There are a lot of comments here about how underrated the early Floyd is, but honestly, even though this track is amazing, most of their early songs are completely stupid if you're not on acid. The later albums, while more accessible, are more polished and have amazing melodies that make you say wow.It would be interesting, though, to see how the Floyd would turn out if they wouldn't have changed.

I started with wish you were here THEN the wall, animals gave me a great taste for the early stuff =D

No, it was called Careful With That Axe Eugene on the Ummagumma live album which came before this, they re titled it for the movie Zabriskie Point.

I did the exact same thing over the last year or so, and I definitely agree! Both styles are great in their own rights, and you can still see some of the early psychedelic influence in their later albums (although considerably less so by Animals and beyond).

Every Floyd fan knows the early/post/Barrett stuff is the best. More, Ummagumma, Meddle, etc. All their best.

It seems that Live at Pompeii's Careful With That Axe, Eugene was actually a performance of this alternate version than the original single release.
