Here's a nice nugget of music history. Phish played Nectar's in Burlington Vermont on 12/1/1984. This was before Page McConnell joined the band when they still had Jeff Holdsworth on Rhythm guitar. They invited their friend Steve Pollack, better known as "The Dude of Life", to sing couple of original songs with them. The first was Skippy the Wondermouse (which later evolved into "McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters"), the second was a little known song called Fluffhead.

As you can tell, Fluffhead, in its debut performance, is quite different from the prog rock epic that it would later become. It's essentially the first and last parts of the song (Fluffhead and Arrival) sung in the humorous style of the Dude of Life (who co-wrote it). The idea of the song came from a man Steve Pollack and Trey Anastasio met at a Grateful Dead concert. He was undergoing chemotherapy and glued cotton balls to his head to replace his lost hair. So yes, Fluffhead is about a cancer patient.
