. i am assuming the cloth they had in their hands was representative of God's mercy. They were in the pits of despair and down on hope but when they got on their knees and prayed God's mercy and grace came down upon them. If you watch their hand motions when they talk to "Jesus" you can see they are motioning the verse of the chorus then when the second man finds God's mercy they start giving out the cloths so that is why I believe the cloth represents God's mercy.
