this is wild to find... I haven't heard this in ages- it was definitely a tribute to the "Heavy Weather" era of Weather Report. However, we never recorded this in the studio, as far as I can recollect, although the "producer" indeed may have put the kabosh on it...

@itsobvious2 - I didn't know they did a studio version of this! This is from my master cassette of the night. There was a bit of hiss. I sent this on to Myrrh at one time years ago in hopes that they could find something they could use as a bonus during the "best of" releases, but tho the quality is good, it wasn't good enough for major release. I am happy to see it here! There are a ton of gems on the old tapes... maybe I should start editing and sharing them...???

Best of my recollection: So Hey! ( forgot the exclamation point previously) was not in the plans for EMERGING, although I think the band would have been happy to have it included. The engineer heard the band playing the tune in the studio and asked to get it on tape. The take was not as good as the casual run-thru, and it was set aside for the moment . At some point it was probably taped over. Loved the tune - with the volume up on the 2nd guitar, bass, and coach's whistle - it was great!

This song is "So Hey" by Phil Madeira. It was recorded thru the mixing board onto cassette. As a result of the board mix, the bass and 2nd guitar are very low in the mix as they may have been loud in the room. The original studio recording of the song was wiped after the 1977 sessions for EMERGING.
