The first few lines say something about the town being "a little town way down Dixie way" which lends credence to the song being about Dumas, Arkansas and not Dumas, Texas, which is about 50 miles north of Amarillo in northern Texas. Dumas, Arkansas is indeed way down Dixie way and the town has an annual festival "Ding Dong Days". Looked all this up after seeing The Honeymooners episode referenced in the comments.11 years ago
