Eighties legend Phil Collins has finally plucked up the nerve to play Against All Odds, for the first time in 23 years (play & sing).

In fact the ex-Genesis drummer has only performed this famous hit three times, labelling it his 'trouble song' after stumbling through the piano chord changes in front of 1.5 billion viewers.

Collins says, "I played it when I wrote it, and I played it at Live Aid twice in one day and apart from that I've never played it.'

Even at his age he has real natural talent. Many of today's "superstars" would not be able to do this impromptu type of performance without completely embarrassing themselves.

He could do it in an lower and easier key than A flat major but he would have to learn the piano part all over again. I would hate to have to do that. On the 1997 version I just watched he did it in F sharp already but didn't play the piano. I still like the 1985 Dallas version with Chester mega drums and the original demo too, that sounds like mid-70s Genesis.

I never had the chance to go to any of his live concerts like millions of others could, but I (we) have his wonderful music to listen to, to enjoy, to remember about good as well as bad moments we've been through and of course to highly admire the musical talent he had and still has to share with us. Enough respect and full of admiration.

What an absolute gentleman Phil Collins is..........even if he couldn't sing one single note any more I will always respect him as a true artist unlike half these techno computerised muppets this day in age. Stand tall and proud Phil! Can't wait to see you in concert even if your 90 yrs old

One of my favorite songs... Always loved playing this on piano... Glad to see Phil Collins still sounding great despite him being 64 already. So sad he's retired for now...

I would like to see the source of the quote that he said "I played it when I wrote it, and I played it at Live Aid twice in one day and apart from that I've never played it." A simple search of this website shows numerous live performances of this song. If by "played it" he means the piano than thats possible. On a side note, I don't understand why he isn't singing it within his range. Take an octave off of it and sing the damn thing Phil. Why try and force what can't be done anymore.

Phil is absolutely unique, and despite all his hardships, he still has such an emotional rendering of this song, perfect in every single way!

Phil is no more able touch the high notes.. that is what age does. It's sad actually. If I had 3 wishes, 1st wish would be to revive all legendary musicians and grant them immortality .. offcourse with their consent :p....

He can still sing it at full blast but they weren't paying enough. trust me i sing too. and if u can hit nots softly, u can hit hard too but why strain your vocals for no audience? reo speedwagon shocked me when kevin cronnin sang "I wish you were there" at full blast on a youtube vid at his age now.
