NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Warner Bros. 1630) After over two decades of success as a singer as well as an actress in the UK and throughout Europe, Miss Clark somewhat re-invented herself in 1964 thanks to songwriters Tony Hatch and later, Jackie Trent. 'Downtown', the tune supplied by Hatch which would eventually become her signature song, she recorded that year and it became a worldwide smash setting into the motion a string of hit singles and albums on both sides of the Atlantic. By the end of 1965, she and Hatch flew to California to record an albums worth of new tunes. The sessions were held at the newly constructed Studio 1 at Hollywood's Western Recorders and Miss Petula had the honor of being the first recording session to initiate it's opening. No expense was held back as a large ensemble of L.A.'s finest session musicians now known as The 'Wrecking Crew' were contracted for the dates. Two songs, 'My Love' and 'A Sign Of The Times' recorded at the November 1965 sessions eventually became huge hit singles. (Warner Bros. quickly changed the album cover artwork/lettering to emphasize those two hit singles). Many of the other tracks recorded which would fill out Petula Clark's LP issued in the U.S. as Warner Bros. 1630 were top notch compositions with wonderful arrangements. One of those being 'The Thirty-First of June' that over the years, has become a favorite among Ms. Clark's many fans and is one that she occasionally will sing in her live performances.
