I never thought of it before, but outside of the USA, saying "zee" at the end of the alphabet would sound strange. You have to sing it that way, though, in order for the words to rhyme correctly.

I doubt there are many people who realize how very popular Guy Mitchell once was. Well, HE WAS!

Thanks so much for sharing your memories of what seems to be an incredible guy..I just discovered him because I live in Pittsburgh and a friend sent me the song he did about that great pawn shop here! I can't get over the charisma that radiates !! He would knock them out today..clearly a born entertainer! Thanks so much!

Nice to hear from someone who knew Guy. He was my idol in the early fifties when I was a teenager. I still remember the words to most of his early songs. Me and my mates would walk to school singing them. Sadly I never got to see him in concert in the U.K. but You tube brings back the happy days.

Knew him in his later years, he and his last wife Betty.. they lived in Las Vegas. I used to go to his house and he was STILL riding a tall chestnut horse on his small mini-ranch (maybe an acre or so). He was still in demand in the UK and Australia.. people don't seem to forget as fast there. He died in Las Vegas about 2003, and did not want visitors to the hosp because they would remember him as a sick man... Great guy. He was a unique, friendly, outgoing person... I liked him very much.

Interesting to see the question, 'What is a Zee', from ILiveOnMyBoat. I no longer live on mine. Although, to be honest, I didn't exactly own mine, just 'assisted' in helping it across the oceans before taking it home to the UK. That brings me full circle, (a 'great' one, for any other nautical readers) to the answer. An American 'Z', it's as simple as that. On the 'musical front', my Pet, singing ANYTHING, is always 'music to my ears'! This one is no exception and that 'Guy' isn't bad either!

You'll be wanting to get "Whispering Smith" the complete TV series 3-dvd set starring Audie Murphy, bacause Mitchell co-starred as fellow detective George Romack. It was a western series filmed in 1959-60, but not broadcast until 1961, mainly due to Guy breaking his shoulder in a fall from a horse! Talk about "Singing The Blues"!

The song is "Hannah Lee". That is also the name of the girl in the song.

This is a real old clip...rare!! Pet Clark made a lot of records before "hitting" with "Downtown" in late '64. Guy Mitchell, had many hits with Columbia in the 50's. MANY. Sadly, he is no longer with us.I used to play alot of him on radio.,and her too!!. Both of these artists are a true pleasure to hear.

First Petula Clark song that I have heard that I don't care for, although her singing was fine. Guy Mitchell was a little too schmaltzy for my taste.

Both Petula Clark and Guy Mitchell seem to have a natural, wonderful chemistry performing this tune together. Also great timing!
