The first concert I ever went to was for a Christian rock group called Petra... and it was pretty cool. Don't laugh... In the early '90s I was a hard rocker... from John Mellencamp to Van Halen, Def Leppard to Metallica, I was all over. Then my dad remarried, and his conservative Christian wife said, no secular music in her house! So some older boys at church told me about Petra, and their current album, *Beyond Belief*. At first I was like, "No thanks." It was somewhere between Def Leppard and Van Halen (Van Hagar, I mean), closer to Def Leppard... but it was alright.I put their music aside when I grew out of religion (no offense to anyone who believes — I just can't), but a couple weeks ago, I was putting ALL THE MUSIC on my memory card, when I saw their albums, and said to myself, "Why not?". See, I kept their CDs around, and put them on my computer, and I lost the CDs, but I never deleted the albums, though I've been tempted to. Well, I wanted "something different" to listen to in the car, and I kept going past these albums that I'd just put up there for the lulz... when I decided to play them. The lyrics were/are kind of cringe-worthy, but the music still rocks me. (This is one of their most secular songs.)So now... IDGAF. I like anime music FFS... And plenty of secular bands claim God anyway. I'm not, but I no longer care if the music I listen to does. There are bands who tear down the fence between rock and country. Skynyrd on rock's side, and Garth Brooks on country's. So on the line between rock and Christian rock, why should an atheist have to stay on rock's side? I go where I want. If there were a Jewish or Islamic band or a band who worshiped the Greek gods, or the Egyptian gods, if the music rocked me, I'd listen to it. Now, at least 75% of Petra's music is softcore praise music I want no part of, but I'll gladly take the hard rock stuff.

I believe those live/stage shots were taken from the Unseen Power tour... It's been over 20 years, but that was the first concert I ever went to, and it was great.
