We all fell in love with Mary - or at least I did.

There will never be anyone like Mary Travers again. The world is darker now without her. A light has went out.

Is it even possible to imagine artists mixing with an audience like this today?

I saw them at the Sanger Theater in New Orleans in may, '83. Awesome performance in an awesome venue.

"HOPE I DIE BEFORE I GET OLD" from "My Generation" by the Who…You know, I make fun of my generation, The Boomers, AKA "The Generation That Was Going To Save The World". A ripe subject for satire but - truth be told - thinking about this subject actually makes me pretty sad. I mean, the hippies, for example, really did have it right, didn't they? Among other objectives, the hippie culture advocated:Ending the involvement in immoral wars (Vietnam was the war at the time.)Equal rights for women.Cleaner environment. Better race relations. Freedom from societal restrictions, including the right to choose their own way.Spiritual re-awakening and the search to find new meaning in life. All of this….very very cool. Right? Too bad those who lived - for the most part - not everyone of course - found their way back to their parent's lifestyle…and became so much more obsessed with material things that they ultimately lost their parent's moral compass (imperfect as it was) and surrendered to the worst kind of what I call "hedonistic materialism".Love, equality, freedom…and peace…."Where have all the hippies gone"….Here's a song of peace by the great Peter, Paul and Mary…."Day Is Done"…..#hippies #peace Peter Paul & Mary (& Friends) - Day Is Done

israeli public radio just played this. for the first time in these weeks of almost constant rockets falling on my town and the villages around, the build-up of tears came out. "I really don't know" - why we and the people on the other side of the nearby border are living in a world of such woe.

+wlhardy It is Peter Yarrow singing at the beginning. He is the one with the pure singing voice and the greater talent. Paul is much taller.

I skip those stupid adds when given the choice I often wondered why they bother putting them on nobody wants to see them its the music you want when you play them videos

I love this version, but...it left out the third verse! "Tell me, why are you smiling, my son?/Is it a secret you can tell everyone?/Do you know more than we who are wise?/Can you see what we all must disguise/Through your loving eyes?"

To mjcamck71: Full agreement with you! All of us have got to do some very intense self-examination if we truly want the spirit (no word for it, really) which you mention to return. The greater part of it is called creativity, but there may be more to it than just that.

Yes, how I miss it, too! And I more than heartily second what Mr. Baxter says. It is almost suffocating to listen to this song, which is really more than a song, and compare what it evokes to the world of today.

It still exists; it's called folk music.

peter paul and mary are so unrecognized to todays niave generation. i think society would smile more if people would stop and take a listen. just like stop and smell the flowers. RIP Mary Travers, you make me want to be a better man every day :)
