Prolly not just the US. But when were things different? When did people take rock music seriously? One of the cool things about rock concerts is that you can do pretty much whatever the hell you want (within reason, without hurting others, yadda yadda). I don't think a whole lot of people would go to concerts if they had to sit down and behave like at a classical concert.
