What did you learn in school today,Dear little boy of mine? What did you learn in school today,Dear little boy of mine? I learned that Washington never told a lie,I learned that soldiers seldom die,I learned that everybody's free,That's what the teacher said to me,And that's what I learned in school today,That's what I learned in school.2What did you learn in school today,Dear little boy of mine? What did you learn in school today,Dear little boy of mine?I learned that policemen are my friends,I learned that justice never ends,I learned that murderers die for their crimes,Even if we make a mistake sometimes,And that's what I learned in school today,That's what I learned in school.3What did you learn in school today,Dear little boy of mine? What did you learn in school today,Dear little boy of mine?I learned our government must be strong,It's always right and never wrong,Our leaders are the finest men,And we elect them again and again,And that's what I learned in school today,That's what I learned in school4What did you learn in school today,Dear little boy of mine? What did you learn in school today,Dear little boy of mine?I learned that war is not so bad,I learned about the great ones we have had,We fought in Germany and in France,And someday I might get my chance,And that's what I learned in school today,That's what I learned in school ::::Pete Seeger - What Did You Learn In School? - YouTubewww.youtube.com/watch?v=VucczIg98Gw

All the lies being perpetuated by the media right now will be written just the same in tomorrows history books and your children will be taught that it is the truth.Oswald acted alone, so did Sirhan, M.L.K. was murdered by another and it really was a plane that hit the pentagon, building # 7 WTC collapsed from little more than a wastebasket fire, and there really were WMD's in the Middle East and anybody can grow up to be the next president, providing their name is Hillary or Cruz.

Does nobody understand that Seeger is trying to take the piss, he's saying that the education system is teaching us lies, or at least it was when he made this song

I think somebody has already said this, but I can't find the comment so I'll post it:It's like hearing Mr Rogers sing fuck the police.

In todays world this sounds like government propaganda, probably like what Kim Jung Un plays everyday in school over the p.a. system.

'Murderers die for their crimes', so? The whole thing is an extended sneer, the effort of which would be better directed writing about the truly mind-boggling history kids were asked to swallow in the Soviet Union.Pete would never do that, tho.

Love the cynical bit at 0.45 ..." ...murderers die for their crimes [even if we make a mistake sometimes]..." Superb, excellent.

If you're waiting for the punch line or a question to come up at the end of the song, forget it. It's implied and rhetorical.Great song!
