+QuakerBarrettYou don't travel from Albany to Buffalo in one day. And if it *is* supposed to be "years" he likely switched it to "miles" to make it copyrightable; at least he didn't warp it half out of recognition like the Kingston Trio usually did.

I remember the song well, though I was taught a slightly different tag before the chorus that rhymes as follows: "And every inch of the trail we know from Albany to Buffalo."

@QuakerBarrett this song actually refers to mileage, the way I was taught it. 15 miles was the minimum one wanted to travel on the Canal per day. They would often travel more since they got paid more the faster the product reached the market, but 15 miles was the minimum.

Why put ads on a Pete Seeger video. It's shameful.

I always figured it was Seeger who screwed-up the lyrics of this song; it's 15 YEARS, not miles. It's about how long he's worked the Canal with his mule, not how far they walk (which is very clearly stated as "Albany to Buffalo" ) . Just look up the original sheet music to see.

So strange I started singing this song out of the blue TODAY in the office to one of my co-workers, saying I remembered it from 5th grade (I'm 46 now).....He hadn't heard the song, googled it to find Pete Seeger just passed! Wow....just kinda gave me a good weird feeling. I always loved that song and looking at a playlist of his realize there have been many others.....R.I.P Pete Seeger, gone but not forgotten.

R.I.P. :(I'll always remember my 10th grade History teacher singin' this in class, back in tha fall of 2003, and it was catchy to me.This song was also a part of tha 1st-ever video I ever edited, back around January 2005. It really paved my future of editing, which I wound up gettin' my Master's in Production, just 1.5 years ago!

We play this at the end of every U.S. History class, and everyone sings it all day. Great song.

And Francis the talking mule had a unisex name with a masculine spelling. :)

All mules are sterile, not neuter. They all have a biological sex that is designated at birth just like most any other creature, they just cannot reproduce :)

How can the mule be called "she" and "Sal"? All mules are neuter.
