Perry Como understood his own skills as a singer perfectly. When he was 80, he was still singing beautifully because he didn't try to do more than his voice could handle. Like many of his colleagues who became famous in the 30's and 40's, he could put all the needed emotion into a song. In addition, he could convince you there were powerful emotions behind his singing while remaining technically very understated. That is a rare skill. A classic performer with sensitivity.

I guess Im in the vic38290 caterogy rembering Perry singing this on his show singing along with my mom some 50+ years ago.Now @ age 70 Im still trying to chase those same rainbows,whisfully thinking what might have been.RIP to my "St" Helena.

Beautiful. I'm going to start listening more to Perry Como. Where are the singers like him today? There is so much trash out there IMO. By the way, the song is not depressing. It expresses a profound human emotion, which by the inspiration of grace and good will, can be worked through, and opened up to the truth of what life is really all about.
