@ bluezone3 because it bears the same aesthetic mark as blues. A man dramatically airing his, admittedly, mundane grievances to a universe that is quite indifferent. hence the aesthetic urgency of the genre: you must all witness my pain, for it is also yours'. It's probably more in line w/ soul; but since Soul didn't become quite such until the '60s, it was one of those those things like dadaism: more of a jumping off point for broader and more concise intellectual realities.
