A small demonstration to show the sound spectrum of the BOSS FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz with guitar and bass.

The guitar recordings have been made without an amplifier, because I didn't have a guitar amp when I made this demo. Maybe I'll do another demo one day if another FZ-2 crosses my way.

The bass guitar recordings have been made without a bass amplifier (I don't have a bass amp).

00:07 Part 1 (Guitar)

03:17 Part 2 (Bass)

If you have questions concerning the operation of this pedal, I refer to the manual that you can officially download as a PDF document here:

It's definitely not monophonic. It just doesn't respond well to other intervals than octaves, 4ths and 5ths. I experienced this with other fuzz pedals as well, but not in a similar extreme way the FZ-2 does it. I'm just a player and don't know too much about electronics. In this case you have to ask someone who knows what's going on in these nice boxes. I just know that the FZ-2 is overall a clone of the famous Japanese 70's fuzz sound (Shin-Ei Fuzz). I miss it! Shouldn't have sold it...

Think I don't get it... is this pedal monophonic? I mean, why it does those crazy sounds when playing multiples notes?

I got this pedal about a month ago and i haven't stopped using it since. the 2nd mode has has a sound that feels beyond evil. the crunchiest and the most sludge abundant tone i have ever heard. and since i play bass, when i plug it into my bass cab, it has a sound of electric wizards dopethrone times 10. it just beats the crap out of my amp. i bought it for 200$ completely new straight out of the original box. and so far, it was the best 200 i have spent so far

I´ve got one too and I think its awesome too. never tried another pedal that sounds like it(although I can imagine a Fuzz Factory can sound a bit like it). I might be buying a second one that someone I know of is selling. they´re getting sort of hard to come by here now. The FZ3 seems a lot better than a FZ5. Ive got a bunch of the discontinued Boss pedals and Ill buy more of them since most of them show up at good prices in ads every once in a while.

I really like Boss pedals but this is the crappiest Fuzz pedal I've ever played

@96FenderTele - You Betcha Yeah! FZ-5 is COSM technology which 'models' the sound of 3 classic Fuzz units! I tried it and I didn't like it. Weak and pissy. I got an FZ-3 on E-bay great pedal, not too fuzzy though. I tracked down an FZ-2 from the U.S. in mint condition and I can't wait until the mailman brings it! It's the greatest Fuzz on earth!

@VanDalgyonTheDark Due to copyright issues I will not make any covers in my demos, sorry! Everything you hear in my videos came out of my head and may have loosely been influenced by existing songs, but not much more.

@96FenderTele The FZ-2 is way better. At least I read a lot of ranting about the FZ-5. It has just a very small fanbase. There are a few guys who prefer the FZ-3, but all in all they all dislike the FZ-5. There are better COSM pedals that BOSS created than the FZ-5 (or the DN-2). The RE-20 and the RT-20 are good examples - they are awesome!

Anybody want to buy one? I'm selling my fz2, It's in brand new condition, looks and sounds like the day it was made. I never really used it much. I'm more of a blues player and just recentley got into the country scene! The only thing is I'm on Long Island. I have it up for $100 on long island craigslist if you want to see it.

@44eelz This could be by coincidence. If it exists, I didn't know it! I always do my best to avoid melody lines of other musicians.

@demiensapphire Hi! This sounds strange to me. Unfortunately I don't have the FZ-2 anymore (I had to sell it - for a ridiculously low price! - to finance a great Spanish classical guitar) to test it in the same way. But I remember it being active instantly , even with silent input. A colleague of mine with whom I work in the music shop agreed to this. He has an FZ-2 and thinks that yours behaves strangely. My advice is: go to the Bossarea forum and you'll get precious help!

hey dude!!!! I have a problem. I have a problem? oO. the distortion is amazing, love her, but when I play very slowly, smooth, without intensity, the first strings, as the sound is not heard or as it is cut, It sounds very low. Is that normal?? if I play hard with the pick the sound comes out.

Excellent demo. You really get the good stuff out of this (and any) pedal. {;o)
