Regardless of who song this song the best, can we at least agree Elvis completely ruined it? lol.Seriously, he stripped it of all emotion and meaning.

So deeply moving! I can't imagine how you sing such a song, that was written for you by your beloved, who is now gone. I'd be crying all the way through.

Very cool this original, but I prefer Peter, Paul and Mary version.

Lets just say that Flacks version was more commercial .This version is how this song should be sung, with emotion .

Her divinely haunting voice resonates a timeless celtic twang.

Her voice is comparable to Joan Baez--such absolute crystal clarity

Beautiful…It has much deeper feeling than other versions. That is, in my opinion. When was it recorded?

I like this version. Kinda reminds me of english or irish or scottish countryside/mountain side ... Ya, somewhere there. Oh and winds blowing.

Many years ago I heard Gordon Lightfoot's recording of this song an an early album. That's the one I always think of, though it is one of the few he did that he did not write.

I always get "flack" from the Roberta fans for saying I prefer Peggy's version. X

I saw Peggy and Ewan in the late 60s and asked Ewan if he would sing this song. He said no that's Peggy's! I asked her and with a serene smile said of course. Apparently he wrote it of her shortly after meeting her or so the story goes. She sang it just like this. Yes love Roberta's version too but this was the first and best for me!

It is not simple to be simple. This is the magic or this version in my opinion

"Sounds quite Scottish for some reason" MaCcoll was born in Salford but his parents were Scottish and he was raised on Scottish folk music.
