Peetie Wheatstraw ... Police Station Blues

This was released before Robert Johnson ever even recorded a note.Peetie Wheatstraw was one of the most recorded bluesmen in all of the pre war era. He was hugely influential. Robert Johnsons Hellhound on My Trail is simply a tweak on this song. Almost all of Johnsons songs were no more than reworks of very popular blues standards of the time but with his own unique idiosyncratic guitar style applied. Also Patton was a blues mega star/legend and dead and buried only 3 years after Wheatstraw started recording.

This is one of six sides, from @1934 (3 records, all for the Bluebird label [a Victor Records subsidiary]), that William Bunch cut on guitar/vcls. The rest of his recorded output (@161 total songs, for the Vocalion, Bluebird and Decca labels) had him on piano/vcls. Robert Johnson "borrowed" most of his style from PW and Kokomo Arnold.
