These guys aren't underrated or unknown at all. They're considered one of the best bands of the 90s and are critically acclaimed.

Totally agree with you, if anything, Pavement are arguably one of the most underrated bands of the 90's, whilst on one hand it's good that they never became a 'bandwagon' band, it's also sad that much of their music (and certainly this album) didn't get anywhere near the recognition it deserved.

Overrated by who? Pavement is an indie band rarely known for their work, though I agree with you on radiohead, they are WAY overrated, and they are a pretty well known band, but in what universe is pavement overrated?, I only know 1 person apart from me where I live that has heard of pavement.

Pavement is one of the best bands ever, for sure, but some critics act like they were gods or something, when there were other bands that were at least as good in the early 90s. Take The Clean for example. "Vehicle" may be better than any album by Pavement.

I mean overrated in the same sense that the ridiculous Radiohead reviews on Pitchfork are overrating the albums, not that they are not one of the best bands of the 90s.

I really only believe in three ratings, or bins into which albums go: Great, Good, and Trash. This album goes into the Great bin, along with other bands that are less recognized because of unfortunate events such as drug abuse or studio disasters.

the music is the same, regardless of the amount of attention it receives. some bands are critically acclaimed because they deserve it.

Dumb argument, and one's hair need not apply. I love Pavement, btw, but like every critically acclaimed band, they are overrated and there are other underrated bands that deserve attention.
