Invictus - André Wall

The pianist is a Great virtuoso, who played some Modern-Classical improvised Piano addition at the end.. Which is very difficult to do.. It was Definitely decided by Mr Simon for the song to end that way..I however prefer the song without that extra Piano ending.. And don´t think it added anything to the Masterpiece ”Peace Like A River”.. I love the Album-version and Mr Simon´s performances of the song alone, just him and his excellent Fingerpicking.. But that´s just my taste & opinion..

Paul Simon. One of the true greats of all time. With AND without Art.

It's obvious Paul Simon himself approved the piano addition at the end of this version of the song. He always likes to add twists when playing his songs live, keeping them fresh for himself and the audience. I thought the piano improv at the end took the song in a new and cool direction, albeit one that doesn't necessarily flow from what precedes it. This is one of my favorite Paul Simon songs and while I would agree with purists that this great song doesn't really require such an addition, I think he as an artist has the right-- and the confidence, I might add-- to experiment. That was what this was about-- artistic experimentation-- not lack of confidence, not a wayward pianist. Some will like this experiment and some won't. That's fine. But it seems uncivil to insult the pianist, which in a sense is really to insult Paul's judgment.

Did Paul approve that piano wanking at the end? I'm surprised he doesn't have the confidence to let this beautiful song stand without the jazzy pretensions.

he didn't wake up form a dream listen to the line. "Peace, like a river, ran through the city". It's talking about how the city is peaceful and asleep but he isn't. However the rest of what you said I agree completely with, well put.

Great, but why didn't they film Paul Simon when he was playing his cool guitar solo (twice they missed it!)
