Paul Simon - Late in the Evening

Lyrics:

The first thing I remember, I was lying in my bed

I couldn't've been no more than one or two

And I remember there's a radio, coming from the room next door

My mother laughed the way some ladies' do

Well it's late in the evening, and the music's seeping through

The next thing I remember, I am walking down a street

I'm feeling alright I'm with my boys and with my troops, yeah

Down along the avenue some guys were shootin' pool

And I heard the sound of acapella groups, yeah

Singin' late in the evening, and all the girls out on the stoops, yeah

Then I learned to play some lead guitar, I was underage in this funky bar

And I stepped outside to smoke myself a J

When I come back to the room, everybody just seemed to move

And I turned my amp up loud and I began to play

It was late in the evening, and I blew that room away

First thing I remember when you came into my life

I said I wanna get that girl, no matter what I do

Well I guess I've been in love before and once or twice have been on the floor

But I've never loved no-one the way that I love you

..and I love you

And it was late in the evening, and all the music's seeping through

This song is just pure joy! It's hard to think there can be so much chaos in the world when songs like this exist. Global leaders, put this song on, have a drink, have a dance, smoke a J... Et Voilà! World peace!

Simon's pre Graceland solo music was so outstanding. I really wish he had stuck to it after the group breakup. One of the best voices of the 60's-80's, until going to that reggae crap.

Best (and only) memories I have of this song is living in Melbourne getting drunk at the neighbors and a group of us dancing into the kitchen to this jam :)

Great song rom the soundtrack to the 1980 film, " One Trick Pony ".Note: Among Simon's band members in the film were Steve Gadd on drums, Tony Levin on bass, and Eric Gale on guitar-Now THAT's what I call a Rhythm Section!!!

This is not "Old School" or "New School" it's the "True School" It transcends time & brings people from different socio economic backgrounds together. This is what fantastic, talented individuals like Paul Simon are able to do. A great song is bigger than any race, religion, colour or creed. We need more Paul Simon's, Ben Harper's, Bob Dylan's or any other artist that has the vision to write & sing from the heart. Not to write & sing for the almighty dollar. Please, Keep it real like this.
