Brenda Pugh....yes you are correct,Val Doonican DID record a version of this song.I remember it as a child..it was the opening track on an L.P of his which belonged to my parents.It came out in around 1965 and was called "13 Lucky Shades of Val Doonican" or something similar....

I got the 45 in 1975 or so (at age 5) with a box of old jukebox records my parents got. This is the only one I still have. Mine's in terrible condition... glad to hear it better!

Paul recorded it in 1963 under the pseudonym of Paul Kane. i presume he wrote it shortly before.

It's amazing to me when you consider all of the 45's he made under various names that none of those songs became hits. Of course you have to get your music on the radio. I'm collecting all I can find because these are treasures, I am thinking many of these 45's were made after "Hey Schoolgirl."
