Paul Mounsey - North. This track is featured on the 'Visit Scotland' ads.

New Age music is one of the best sub-genres of electronic music. Its mellow beats create a powerful ambience in any situation. Listening to it will make a person very chilled out, whether they're working or just need to get their mind off things. No doubt one of the best New Age artists are Enigma, in which I have most of their discography. I first heard this track whilst coming across one of the VisitScotland ads, and had to look up this track (similar thing happened with the Echo Falls ad with 'Art Of Noise - Three Fingers Of Love' - check that out too).

'North' by Paul Mounsey from his 1998 album 'Nahoo Too', features an addictive violin melody, that goes perfectly with the vocal in the background, not fond of the first part of the rock guitar but the end part makes up for this great track.

Can anybody provide any information on the audio recordings featured in this track? What are they about? Where are they taken from etc?

Its just a pity the tune has sod all to do with cheesy Scottish tartan and shortbread tourist ads, and everything to do with Canadian Mohawks. I wonder what people hear when they listen to music sometimes!

I totally agree, people tend to be so narrow minded about music

No idea why people have an issue with the guitar riff. That's how it was written - that's how it was meant to be. Whoever produced the adverts used a minimal sound clip from this. Not sure a power chord riff would go well with the serenity of those Scotland adverts but that doesn't mean the riff is bad. :)

Love, love, love this music. When I first heard it, I thought it was an ancient Scottish lament, given the modern treatment. It is utterly beautiful, with or without the guitar.

As an added note, guitars are distortion. YouTube has compressed and often distorted sound quality. Distortion PLUS distortion = a mess. Guitars have never sounded particularly good on YouTube. Now, on a decent pair of HD650 headphones with a CD quality recording, guitars are a different story...

Whatever happened to the days where people liked multiple genres and admired the nerve to put two unexpected genres together? There's a cut version if you're perfectly content to listen to the same sequence for 5 minutes straight.
