Whoever stated that this was the first take is correct. He said he came in "with my little bag of songs", and I think it was Ethan Glyns who said let's her a song, and recorded Paul singing it for him. Paul said, "Can we do this again? That's not the best I can do! My voice is all wobbly." He was told that it caught the mood of the song and was talked into keeping it in because he sounds vulnerable.10 years ago

Listen to the other tracks or go to a live concert. His voice is still fantastic (even after singing live for more than 2 1/2 hours), which I can attest to having attended a recent concert. I sing with the local symphony and my voice instructor, a professional Opera singer, was standing next to me at the concert, and agreed. The rawness of the vocals in this song are deliberate and work because it's *supposed* to be about an old man looking back.10 years ago
