Would you believe it? He wrote the song before he emigrated from Ireland to Scotland. An emigration song, before emigrating. And the story goes, he was so sad after writing this.... he never left. I'd believe it. because if you played this song to me before leaving Ireland... I wouldn't go either, My eyes have tears already.

@MovieMad007 That's why I said "a few incidents since then", but that's just a couple of nutters. BTW that was two years ago, not last week. Totally agreed with you though - it's a very similar attitude of hatred and balkanisation on both sides. The religious split is only a coincidence, but served as a convenient way to target people on the "other" side, even if it wasn't always accurate. It's really about territorialism. I've heard fanatics of both sides speak and they all sound like thugs :/

just as the UVF (so called Loyalists) are supposedly "Protestant" means they are Christian - and respect the bible well the bible says "thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not hurt thy neighbour" - the 10 Commandments .......well the IRA (in all its different guises -Provos-continuity-INLA-or Real IRA, have just about murdered 3 or 4000 British military/citizens over the last 20 or 30 years. I was in Manchester when the bomb blasted causing enormous destruction in the 1990's.
